Seller's Description:
Good-Bumped and creased book with tears to the extremities, but not affecting the text block, may have remainder mark or previous owner's name-GOOD PAPERBACK Standard-sized.
Ted Kooser?s poems are accessible and unpretentious miniature snapshots of life and death; old age, middle age, and youth; relationships and more. In a few short lines, you share Mr. Kooser?s sense of wonder, humor, and moments of epiphany. In the poem, ?A Widow,? the grief-driven anger of a woman who has lost a man she loved is powerfully drawn in just six lines. The last line hits the reader hard in the stomach. Other poems, such as ?Selecting a Reader? and ?The Urine Specimen,? are hilarious. In all of the poems, the images are striking: ??a starfish, dry as a fancy pastry?.? I have had the wind knocked out of me more than once by the shear power and clarity of these poems.
For those of you who think of poetry as incomprehensible, saccharine, overly serious twaddle, give this book a try. For those who envy or aspire to poetic genius, you?ll appreciate how very difficult it is to write this well.
