My second-favorite book in the series, Fire Margins gives us our first inkling of the more spiritual subject matter that will appear in later volumes. Fire Margins also gives us a better idea of humanity's problems dealing with this new race and its different views on religion, family ties, and seemingly the biggest hang up, sexuality. Also, very unique among Sci Fi plots which usually focus on humanity's reaction to the alien presence, Fire Margins gives us an in depth look at how Sholans react to humanity's stance on such things, as the book takes place entirely on the world of Shola, where the main character is near to completing the complex process of being assimilated into that world's culture that started in Fortune's Wheel. New characters are introduced as well, many of which will continue to appear in later volumes. Even if you initially did not intend to read the whole series, please pick this book up, as it is a great follow up to its predecessor Fortune's Wheel, which I recommended as a stand alone read.
