Near Fine. Putnam's Nature Field Books; Color Plates, b&w drawings and photos; 12mo 7"-7½" tall; 625 pages; [SIGNED] 1928 G. P. Putnam's Sons. Stout, smaller format HC 1st edition, 1st printing. Tightly bound and exceptionally fresh in original burgundy red cloth with decorative pictorial title design to cover and titles at spine boldly and brightly in gilt. The author's warm inscription and signature to the front endpage is dated April 9, 1929. By all appearances Anthony appeared on that date as the featured lecture at the Travel Club of Lancaster PA; it is inscribed to Dr Wolf, a noted composer and active officer of the Travel Club at that time. Illustrated throughout with color plates, b&w drawings and photos. An exceptionally handsome copy of this early field book for Mammal identification, authored by the curator for the Department of Mammals at the Museum of Natural History. NF; Signed by Author.
