Fibrinogen is a circulating multifunctional blood protein of hepatic origin which upon proteolytic conversion to fibrin by thrombin polymerizes to form a fibrin clot which comprises the main structural element of the intravasuclar thrombus. Specific study areas of fibrinogen include hemostasis and throm-bosis fibrinolysis wound healing angiogenesis inflammation cell migration tumour growth and metastatic implantation.
