Consider the D flat major opening of the slow introduction of the Piano Sonata in F minor, Op. 11/2, and the way the implications of the unstable tonality are carried through the movement. The Piano Sonata in E flat major, Op. 11/1, is very different in mood, akin in spirit to many of Beethoven's lighter works.
