Very Good. Signed by Author(s) First edition thus. 12mo. Preface signed "R.S.M." 3 engraved illustrations (including half-title page). Original full brown cloth, gilt and blindstamped upper cover, blindstamped lower cover, dark brown endpapers (slight wear to spine, rubbing). Very good. Supposed account, in a distinctly humorous vein, of a meeting between an Irish prelate and the Pontiff, based on a meeting between the Catholic Reverend Thomas Maguire and the Protestant clergyman T.P. Pope (see preface). This edition is noteworthy for the incorrect authorial attribution to Murray on both the title page and in the preface. See Halkett & Laing II, 273 (lists an edition printed in New York in 1868). Ferguson (1810-86), Irish poet and antiquarian, Queen's Counselor and Trinity College (Dublin) graduate, most famous for his 1887 compilation "Ogham Inscriptions in Ireland, Wales, and Scotland" as well as verse collections.
