FTV's first compilation CD, Fashion TV: Spring Summer 2001 Collection, sticks to a similar no-nonsense formula. It's one of those rare dance compilations that are both ultra cool and easy to swallow; it would suit a small housewarming party as much as an exclusive Versace show in Milan. If you're not familiar with the European dance music scene, then don't expect to find any big names on here -- apart, of course, from N.Y.C.'s Moby. If you are, then monikers like Laurent Garnier, Ian Pooley, and Alex Gopher should give you an idea of the pedigree of talent roped in. But the lesser-known acts, such as Only Paradise, Tosca, and Rinôçerôse are no stragglers and, in fact, provide many of the highlights. A lot of the stuff is, as you might expect for a hip dance record, smooth deep house and garage with an occasional sprinkling of sexy vocals. Most tracks are the original mixes, and not some watered-down version no one's ever heard before. And those that are remixed, such as Laurent Garnier's "The Man With the Red Face" (the extremely smooth "Svek Remix"), are actually better than the originals.
