I loved Noah Adams first book, Piano Lessons, so I was sure I would enjoy this book. The book is about a river in the mountains of Appalichia, the 'New River.' Adams follows the river over an extended period of time, traveling each section by land. He meets people who live on the river and writes about the scenery and his experiences. Each chapter represents a different journey or section of the river. I found the book to be slow moving, almost as if Adams did not have much to say about some of the areas. I am sure I would have enjoyed the book more had I actually been to the river to see it. Adams does have gifted writing skills and I considered the possiblity that this book might really deserve four stars instead of three. But overall the book is rather boring, hence the three stars.
