Brought up by ageing parents with Victorian values, 'Ronnie' was very much a loner, whilst a few miles down the road lived a very different family, a secret family who would not come to light until more than fifty-five years later. Clara Swift lived with Ron and his family for thirteen years, until at the age of 97 she moved into a local care home where she reached and celebrated her 100th birthday, she passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve 2007. Without her unwittingly mentioning the family secret, the book would never have come to be written.
