Bishop Walter Kasper surveys the development of eschatological thought in twentieth-century Protestant and Catholic theology and shows how the various dimensions of this aspect of Christian faith express the role of God's plan for the future. Gerald O'Collins, S.J., explores the possibilities which might lie in reorientation of eschatological thought toward more explicit accentuation of the theme of love. He proposes eight major characteristics of love which shape its integrating role in eschatology. Finally, Raymond E. Brown, S.S., studies in detail the eschatological phenomena associated in the gospels with Jesus' crucifixion. He notes particularly the raising of the holy ones from their tombs (Matt 27:51-53).
