As a professional tutor, I have worked with many people who are preparing to take the FTCE. As such, I have extensively compared ALL of the prep books that are available for many of the FTCE sub-tests.
For every sub-test that I have worked with (including the General Knowledge, the Professional Education, and the Elementary Education, among others) the Cliffs Notes books are BY FAR the best prep books.
The most commonly available FTCE prep books, for all of the sub-tests, are the ones published by REA. I strongly recommend against the REA books. I have found that their books contain a ridiculous number of incorrect answers! I have even emailed REA, asking for an errata sheet, but they have not published one (nor do they seem eager to do so).
The Cliffs Notes books are significantly more accurate. I have rarely even found typos in their books, let alone incorrect information.
In addition, some of REA's books do not align with the current FDOE competencies! In the case of the GK test, the REA book doesn't refer to specific competencies at all. {I believe that is their way of avoiding having to update their books when the competencies change.}
All of the Cliffs Notes books that I have looked at align the current competencies, and correlate their lessons to them.
The General Knowledge test can be tough. No book can contain all of the information that might possibly appear on the test. However, the most thorough and most accurate books that I have found for FTCE prep are the ones published by Cliffs Notes.
