If I?m perfectly honest, this book was a bit of a disappointment compared to the rest of the Uglies series (okay, maybe it was more than just a bit). It lives up to its title as being just an ?extra?, that?s for sure, with not just one, but a whole group of whiny, wimpy characters that go through a plot that feels like its been made up in about five minutes. I began reading with high hopes, and for a while it seemed as if my expectations would be fulfilled?but no. The protagonist was stubbornly cringe-inducing through the entire book, and deserves a medal for managing to adamantly remain a childish, shallow brat till the very end.
I guess she can be commended for not doing things halfway. Still, it?s sad to realize that all the small, insignificant, background characters are livelier and more interesting than the protagonist is.
The appearance of Tally Youngblood, the protagonist for the previous books, is delayed far too long, and seems more of an accident or afterthought of the author when she finally emerges. Her strong and independent attitude that she gained at the end of Specials has become strangely warped and over-exaggerated in Extras, making her act like a PMS-ing, bipolar teenager whose greatest challenge in life was deciding just how much of a drama queen she was going to be in this book.
I understand what Scott Westerfeld was aiming for with Extras, but he just fell short.

Wowya!!!!!!
People who like reading about adventures will without a doubt enjoy this book! The title is Extras and it is written by: Scott Westerfield. The genre is teen adventure/science fiction. In Extras the reader is introduced to Aya Fuse, who is tired of being a nobody. After a party, she meets the Sly Girls, a group of brave girls who want nothing to do with fame, which is all Aya wants. She gets her chance when they discover something that could bring her fame but could put the rest of the world in danger. This is anattention-grabbing book. From page one to the end, it had my complete interest. It is full of excitement and many people can relate to some things that happen in this book. So, if anyone is in for an adventure, read Extras! This book is for all ages 7-110 All the book are amazing and I hope Scott will continue to this Adventure soon!! Happy Reading!!!!

Extras is definitely a must-read for fans of the Uglies Trilogy.
It takes place in Japan with Aya as the main character after the trilogy. Your way of life is basically determined by how famous you are based on a ranking system that's dependent on how many times your name is searched/said/etc. And Aya is an "extra," one of the least famous people in the city, so this book starts out with her trying to become famous. I won't spoil the plot, but you'll find the same fun adventures, characters, and mystery that you found in the Uglies Trilogy. I would definitely recommend it if you're craving more of the "Uglies" world.

A great book
Now that Tally Youngblood has ended the world of uglies, pretties, and specials, it is time to start anew. Now it's all about fame. The more fameous you are, the better you are. The whole world is just like a giant game of American Idol. In this new world, Aya struggles to find the fame that everyone wants. At first she isn't very successfull, and she fears she will have to live the rest of her life as a nobody, and extra that doesn't belong.
Then Aya meets a clique of girls who pull crazy tricks, yet are extremely secretive of it. Aya wants desperately to kick their story, to show everyone how intensely cool the Sly Girls are. But doing so would throw her out of extra-land and into the world of fame...and extreme danger. A world she's not prepared for.
