The message from the Himalayas for the last many thousand years is Silence-silence of the body and mind. This message is especially appropriate for the modern times of overwork, multitasking, constant tiredness, inability to concentrate, focus, rest, eat, or sleep well, all of which are results of high stress. No matter how busy life is, unless one takes the time to de-stress, the stress will continue to build and can cause illness. This book is all about relaxation through ?still? exercise.
Swami Rama, Yoga Master and Spiritual master from the Bharati tradition of Himalayas, teaches in this remarkable book, simple, systematic, relaxation exercises for the body, breath, and mind. Each exercise is described thoroughly with photos/diagrams. They are unique in that there is hardly any movement, which facilitates deep relaxation.
This short book of 88 pages comes in five parts, starting with basic relaxation, tension and relaxation, relaxing poses, breathing, and concentration. The work looks extremely simple, but as the daily practitioners have come to know, the results are phenomenal in reaching new levels of awareness of one?s own body and mind. To achieve the results, one must take the time every day to practice one or more of the exercises. Taking on the entire routine given in the book is the most beneficial.
The book contains nine Parts and four Appendices. The nine Parts detail the virtually movement-less work. The first three Appendices give directions for preparations for practice, diaphragmatic breathing, and corpse pose relaxation. The fourth appendix summarizes all the exercises in the book with directions and diagrams. After reading the book carefully, the fourth appendix can be very handy for the beginner to follow through the routine of practice. The daily practitioners experientially realize that all our efforts are mental, and the body follows the mind?s directions. ?Exercise without Movement? trains the body and mind together.
Small wonder the thousands practitioners all over the world are eternally grateful to the Yogi, Spiritual Guru and Enlightened Master, His Holiness Swami Rama of the Himalayas.
