In 14 chapters Roskams narrates all the story from the theory of excavation and pre-excavation strategies to the proper excavation, recording and stratigraphic analysis of documented layers and features, including the best ways to write the Harris matrix so that it can represent not only the position of each layer within the sequence but also its composition, colour and visibility. All statements Roskams makes are based on his experience in excavating sites, especially in England. The text is complemented with drawings and photos so that it is easily comprensible. As an archaeologist I would recommend this book to anyone interested or involved in field archaeology.
