However, they do tip the scales a little bit toward the newer side of things, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since it gives the album more cohesion than other volumes. This does come at the expense of variety, and this album doesn't seem as freewheeling as its predecessors. Still, there's something to be said for cohesion, and the result is a dynamite little sampler that showcases such modern bluesmen as Paul DeLay, Carl Weathersby, Melvin Taylor, and Ted Hawkins turning in fine material -- it makes you want to hear more, either of the artists or the label, which is the best thing to say about a sampler. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
