Everett Austin Parke, 81, was a retired Navy Commander who worked for the CIA and was a clarinetist in musical groups, Commander Parke, a Washington resident, retired from the Navy in 1966. He spent the next six years as a CIA anti-submarine warfare analyst. He was in the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1945, which graduated a year early because of World War II. He was class president. He served in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea during the war there. He later commanded the destroyer escort Sellstrom and the destroyer Robert A. Owens. He worked in naval intelligence and was naval attache at the U.S. Embassy in South Vietnam in the early 1960s. His final active-duty assignment was intelligence work at the Pentagon. His other memberships included the Army-Navy Club and the Parke Society, a genealogy group. He has lectured widely in the British Isles and overseas, speaking at the early Conferences in the States initiated by the National Genealogical Society (from 1981), at the Australasian Congress, Canberra (1986), at the Sesquicentennial Conference, Auckland, New Zealand (1990) and at the first Irish Genealogical Congress, Dublin (1991). He has accompanied ten study tours to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City (1989-2006). He oversaw the first weekend course in genealogy in 1965 and initiated the highly successful annual Family History Fairs in London in 1993. He has an Honors Degree in Ancient and Medieval History, took a leading part in the foundation of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives in 1968 (he was a Vice-President, 1980-2011; Fellow, 2011) and was for many years External Assessor for the University of London courses in Genealogy and the History of the Family organised at Birkbeck College.
