While traditional ethical philosophy has made important contributions to post-theological analyses of ethical principles, it has avoided and neglected the contributions to understanding how the left and Marx especially have shifted assumptions about ethics and the way that what has been called universality has been shaped by ruling class ideologies. On the other hand, recent post-modern and post-colonial ethics have fallen back on very weak forms of subjectivism and very weak forms of relativism. This book helps show the latent ethics in Marx's writing that he refused to call ethics because of its appropriated and distorted definition within ruling class ideology, yet there is an ethical system within his view which is far better and more usefully explained here than in any other writing I've encountered on the subject.
