The scenario is real. PanAm Clipper caught west of Hawaii on Dec 7,1941. Must return home to NYC over uncharted route. This is a highly fictional account of a real occurance. The author has added several people and events for social stops along the way. He also minimizes the real difficulties of no Aviation Gas, maps or communication. I could only get half-way before putting it down. Recommend reading 'The Long Way Home' by Ed Dover for the non-fiction version.
