Among Cormier's major buildings whichinclude the Montr? al Criminal Courthouse Annex, the Supreme Court of Canada, and hisown house, the main pavilion at the Universit? de Montr? al pioneered modeminstitutional building in Qu? bec. Today it stands as a landmark work of 1920sarchitecture whose vast scale was influenced by the Chicago Tribune Competitionrather than by European issues of rationalist form. The essays also discuss Cormier'searly training as an engineer and his elegant and skillful use of such modemmaterials as reinforced concrete and of yellow American-made glazed brick in thecreation of a personal monumental vocabulary that ushered Canadian architecture intoa new era.
