There is something frustrating about this position, but it works well enough here. There are two large single-movement pieces, a piano quintet and a piano trio, and a group of short works for various forces. All situate the listener clearly enough but then evolve into rhythmically intricate passages. There are hints of jazz in the harmonies. The only multi-movement work is a three-movement sonata for solo violin, and Tanguy manages to make this most challenging of genres consistently interesting.
