John Thurston. Very Good. An uncommon, illustrated poem by George Marshall. The first edition of this work, with engravings from designs by John Thurston and one by Dodd. Illustrated, with a frontispiece, engraved dedication leaf and a further ten plates. Engravings are by Allen Robert Branston, White, Charlton Nesbit, Luke Clennell, Armstrong and Thomas Bewick after John Thurston and Dodd 'A View of the Cape of Goodhope' plate is from an engraving by Bewick after Thurston. Bewick was a British engraver and natural history author. One of his best known works was 'A History of Quadrupeds'. Bookplate of one John T Beer to the front pastedown. A fascinating and uncommon poem. In a quarter calf binding. Rebacked with the original boards preserved. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, John T Beer. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges. Small worm holes to the first and last few pages to the margins. Scattered spots to the first and last few pages with just the odd spot throughout. Occasional creases to plates at edges. Very Good.
