Christopher Young pulls out all the stops with Entrapment. Employing an excess of 100 orchestral musicians and more electronics than a Radio Shack outlet, its sound is absolutely massive, with a high-tech sheen well matched to the film's heist plot. As always, Young melds traditional symphonic motifs and contemporary synthesizer programming with seamless ingenuity. The pulsating rhythms of techno music are an essential ingredient of his approach here, but he remains eminently capable of creating suspense the old-fashioned way as well, summoning a series of orchestral flourishes that create a palpable sense of tension.
