Inundated as we are today with candied, prettified, treacly fairy tales, it's refreshing to read them in their original, often somewhat raw and unsettling versions. Of course, the real reason to check this one out is to glory in Arthur Rackham's beautiful illustrations. If I could have rated the book's artwork alone, it would have gotten five stars!
