Florman gives a very useful overview of the Arts in a way that he thinks will appeal to Engineers. His own background is unusual in that he studied Engineering but also did an MA at a liberal Arts college. He has written several books on this aspect of Engineering but here he gives a guide to the thinking about these issues, and each chapter concludes with a set of references for further reading. I found the first four chapters (out of eleven) on history and literature the most stimulating. The others deal with philosophy, fine arts and music and I share almost all his musical recommendations. In a world increasingly concerned about ecology, global warming, and the effects of engineers' creations, thisa book provides a valuable basis for broadening one's understanding of how to approach them
