Even though the album's strongest cuts were rooted in pop/rock, Emotion Is Dead still delivered some hard-hitting, heavier cuts as well, particularly "To the Tune of 5,000 Screaming Children" and "Is Patience Still Waiting." Completing the diverse album were "You Always Say Goodnight, Goodnight," a piano-driven ballad, and "We're At the Top of the World," whose sha la la chorus demanded sing-along participation from the listener.
