La longitud de cada hemistiquio es normalmente de tres a once s???labas, y se considera unidad m???nima de la prosodia del Cantar. Sus versos no se agrupan en estrofas, sino en ti- radas; cada una es una serie sin n???mero fijo de versos con una sola y misma rima asonante. Se desconoce su t???tulo original, aunque probablemente se llamar???a gesta o cantar, t???rminos con los que el autor describe la obra en los versos 1085 ("Aqu??? compie???a la gesta de mio ???id el de Bivar," comienzo del segundo cantar) y 2276 ("las coplas deste cantar aqu???s van acabando," casi al fin del segundo), respectivamente.
