This book describes the modern management techniques needed to do this, thereby providing ideas which can be used to stimulate entrepreneurial solutions to management concerns. Considerable management expertise is required to achieve goals whilst being cost effective. Special attention is paid in the book to the concepts of managing in times of economic restraint, changing work attitudes, environments and management styles, and to the influence of technology, corporate culture, and commercialization. The influence of a library's external and internal environment must also be taken into account. A systems approach to strategic management has been selected as the basis for the design and layout of the book, which allows the library manager to move from considering the library and its parent organization's external environment, and its influence upon the management of the library, to an examination of its internal environment. A sub-systems approach is taken for the information centre's internal environment.
