Founders of a State
Liberty County, Georgia, now a backwater notable for its emptiness was once a hot-bed of patriotism and agricultural development. Two signers of the Declaration of Independance and several important families who produced a President of the United States trace their roots to the county. DWELLING PLACE, one of three books based upon the Jones family, traces the history of the area and its families through the extensive correspondence the books are based upon. This book alone is a worthy telling of an important part of US history. In combination with the other two (Children of Pride: a True Story of Georgia and the Civil War and Recollections of a Southern Daughter: A Memoir by Cornelia Jones Pond of Liberty County) tell the story of this family from Colonial times to Reconstruction.
