A stirring performance of Dvorak's sacred masterpiece, which choral maestro Robert Shaw only discovered shortly before his death in 1999. These performances, captured in a recording session for Telarc just days afterwards, show both Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at the very top of their form, with a quartet of outstanding soloists that were all favorites of the conductor: soprano Christine Goerke, Mezzo-Soprano Marietta Simpson, tenor Stanford Olsen, and bass Nathan Berg.
Shaw's final recording is a memorable one, and the interview he gives with NPR's Martin Goldsmith to fill out on disc 2 is fascinating and poignant.
