The editor has selected several of the major drug metabolizing systems, including the cytochrome P450 family, flavin-containing monooxtgenases, glutathione S-transferases, glucuronidation, N-acetylation, and sulfotransferases. Additional chapters present approaches to the study of signaling pathways in the regulation of drug metabolism enzymes and how modulation of these pathways can influence antiviral therapy. The transport chapters cover multidrug resistance proteins, the reduced folate carrier, and plasma membrane and mitochondrial glutatione transporters.
