He had, therefore, the advantage of me, because my first clear memory of him is on a June week end in 1902 when I hung over his shoulder while he drew pictures of me in assorted attitudes and riding on various animals. I was growing rather lanky by that time and he did not fail to record the fact. Whenever he was a guest at my parents' table, at Ragdale, I crept part-way down the stairs in my nightgown to peek into the dining room where I could watch him happily. Sometimes the whole family sat by the fire while he told tale after tale of his adventures. Especially I liked the one about the Sultan of Sulu.
