The book itself kept me captivated and, though it did drag on about the landscape and detail descriptions, that appears to be the authors style. Sophie is an engaging character and the rest of her travelling ensemble were just as much fun. Kylin is wonderful to see again, and while striving for perfection, only seems to become more human in his emotions. I loved the cat and his curse and the fact that Kylin keeps his secret, only makes it more humorous. While part of a trilogy, this book can stand alone, but I recommend getting all three books and reading them together. However, if you haven't read 'Pigs Don't Fly' or 'Master of Many Treasures' then you should stop reading here. . . . . .SPOILER AHEAD!! When I found this book, I was happy to learn that the author was finally going to finish Summers' tale. At the end of 'Master of Many Treasures' the story was left up in the air with maybe it went this way, maybe it went that. While tearfully finishing the book, I decided that Jasper spirited Summer away to that island where he stayed with her for the rest of her days and then returned to the Blue Mountain. And so I believed for many years, til coming upon this book. Now I discover that Summer and Jasper had a different fate because if she had survived, no way would she have allowed the Eg to leave Blue Mountain.
