Gomi Taro is a leading Japanese children's book writer, and I was delighted to find his works are now available in English. This book is exemplary - it's a coloring book that's also a a drawing book, teaching - liberating - children (and adults...!) to see the whole world as waiting to be drawn. Instead of being given some lines to fill in, the Gomi Taro reader has to fill out a picture, sometimes in a natural, often in humorous and - why not - sometimes in a fantastic way. You're drawing the picture, not just coloring it.His gently guiding hand lets kids (and adults...!) realize they are artists, giving ideas and encouragements. How is this better than other coloring books? The way Lego is better than Playmobil. And have I mentioned that Gomi Taro's drawings are adorable in their suggestive simplicity?

We have both Scribbles and Doodles, and these are the BEST coloring books in the world!! My son tends to get bored with just coloring in the lines, and these books both allow him to get creative and imaginative, to draw his own pictures and make up his own stories. The drawings that are already on the pages are adorable and often very, very funny (Taro Gomi knows that every kid loves a good poop joke but never makes it tasteless), and the ideas she has for doing your own thing are a great jumping-off point for serious creative adventures. Highly, highly recommended.

GREAT FOR DOODLERS!
This is a fantastic book for any little doodler in your home! This book inspires creativity, along with being a lot of fun! It's also great for those moments when you need a little time to yourself (like when you're cooking dinner) or when you're out at a restaurant. Once you start, you can't stop doodling!
