God offers a bounty of blessings intended for all women, treasures author Jo Ann Paris Leavell hopes no one will miss. As a minister's wife for over thirty-five years and a teacher of ministers' wives for fourteen, Mrs. Leavell considers herself "a satisfied customer in ministry," and shares her positive attitude with Christian women and ministers' wives in particular. Mrs. Leavell looks back positively at the journey which has brought her to a contented life as a minister's wife. She views childhood as the time for shaping a positive self-image, offering adults ideas for improving unhealthy self-opinions as well as helpful ways to affirm the next generation. Recognizing the importance of one's internal resources and employing those inner strengths keeps a person continuously motivated toward personal growth, she stresses. God bestows special gifts upon everyone, she believes. It is the individual's responsibility to discover those gifts, to discipline themselves in their use, and to apply them properly for the common good. The reality of the present also plays a vital role in Christian living. Mrs. Leavell breaks new ground, guiding the reader through topics of appearance, marriage, communication, parent-child relationships, time management, money, and hospitality. Finally, with an eye to the future, the author advises setting specific goals to guide personal and spiritual growth. The author resides in New Orleans with her husband, Dr. Landrum P. Leavell, president of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She pursues an active ministry, regularly addressing women's groups. In addition to teaching a course for ministers' wives at the seminary, she has taught interdenominational Bible studies, and conducts family life conferences with her husband. A supplement to its parent text, Rhonda Harrington Kelley's Don't Miss the Blessing Study Guide provides the opportunity for personal study, as well as practical applications of the subject matter discussed. Its goal is to challenge readers to grow personally and spiritually as they study the Scriptures and search themselves.
