DON Q is a fictional ‘memoir' narrated by a young lawyer named Pepe Seco of things told to him by the mysterious philosopher Don Q. Don Q is variously identified as the cousin of Antoine de Saint-ExupEry, later as a nephew of either Antonio Machado or Miguel de Unamuno. It is also possible that he is Don Quixote, or the god-man Quetzalcoatl. Lopez Portillo's work blends such varied moods as those reminiscent of authors as diverse as Cervantes, Montaigne, or Borges.
