Y si no fragua, la experiencia propia y la ajena ensenan que en la mayoria de las veces es mas saludable empezarlo de nuevo por otro camino, o tirarlo a la basura. Este volumen recoge los cuentos que, afortunadamente para los lectores de Garcia Marquez, no terminaron en la papelera, precedidos por un prologo en el que se da razon de por que son doce, por que son cuentos y por que son peregrinos.
