Thus, we read of the Pastoral age, before men learned to fell the forest or turn the sod; of the Patri archal ago, when men lived in tents, went from valley to valley, and led their flocks and herds along the fresh water streams in search of green pastures - when the servants of Abraham and Lot contended in the desert for the wells of fresh water.
