FASCINATING ER DRAMA
Disaster Status reminds me of the opening scene to House, the T.V. series, where someone arrives in the ER extremely ill. Dr. House and his team must solve the mystery to save lives. In a similar fashion; Erin, charge nurse and fire captain, Scott must uncover clues to this frightening situation developing in the ER. Candace Calvert?s nurse training and familiarity with ordeals experienced in the Emergency Room make the characters real, and the circumstances chilling. This author also gives the reader an inside view of a medical emergency, up-close and personal. I was fascinated at how hospitals respond and how a community deals with a medical emergency of this magnitude. I was so thankful to receive a review copy of this gripping book.
As this disaster unfolds, Candace has the reader right in the middle of the action. Here?s a peak at the first responders and how this author grabs you from the very beginning, ?Eighteen sick farm workers, ?the nurse explained. ?Maybe a few more now, they keep coming in. We?re running out of gurneys, even in the hallway? They?re not arriving in ambulances. They?re arriving in work vehicles. A couple of guys were even sprawled out on a flatbed truck.?
?Sick with what?? Erin asked. The sheer number of patients qualified as a multi-casualty disaster?. we?re overwhelmed?.The media got wind of it, so now we have reporters showing up. You know how aggressive they get. ??
I saw how a community pulls together to contain an affected site and tries to make the world safe again. I had a new appreciation of the hard work and endless hours put in as everyone fights a crisis. It made me realize I take these professionals for granted. Candace reminded me to pray for these workers daily.
This author not only does a remarkable job describing this trauma in a hospital but Candace has a strong spiritual thread that?s believable. Professionals deal with trauma daily and compartmentalize their feelings, and struggle with God. What does it take for them to open up, feel their feelings and let God in? I can?t wait for another installment of Candace?s ER dramas.
