With its variations on Praetorius' hymn "Est ist ein Ros entsprungen" acting as a kind of ritornello, Die Weinachtsgeschichte has a sound that evokes the snowy landscapes, the quiet and calm of a traditional Christmas in Germany, but is not in itself traditional.
