As far as their content is concerned, the spectrum ranges from complete bibles to gospels, psalms and other parts of the bible as well as books containing readings for church services and Divine Office, commentaries on biblical writings and Latin bible poetry. Most of the manuscripts originate from monastic libraries in the southwest of Germany. The descriptions are structured according to the German Research Foundation's guidelines for manuscript cataloging and are made accessible by means of detailed indices. German description: Der Katalog umfasst wissenschaftliche Beschreibungen aller 65 Handschriften und 13 Fragmente der Codices biblici in Quart- und Oktavformaten aus der ehemaligen Herzoglich Offentlichen Bibliothek zu Stuttgart. Dabei handelt es sich uberwiegend um mittelalterliche Handschriften; der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Zeit vom 11. bis zum 15. Jahrhundert. Der fruheste Codex entstand in der zweiten Halfte des 9. Jahrhunderts, hinzu kommen sieben neuzeitliche Manuskripte. Die Texte sind zumeist in lateinischer Sprache verfasst; daruber hinaus sind elf deutschsprachige Handschriften sowie drei mit griechischem Text und je eine in Hebraisch, Polnisch und Alttschechisch vorhanden. Inhaltlich reicht das Spektrum von der Vollbibel uber Evangeliare (sieben Handschriften), Psalter (13 Handschriften) und andere Teile der Bibel bis hin zu Buchern fur die Lesungen im Gottesdienst und fur das Stundengebet. Schliealich finden sich Kommentare zu biblischen Schriften sowie lateinische Bibeldichtung. Die einbandige Pariser Bibel des 13. Jahrhunderts, kleinformatig, in zumeist extrem platzsparender Perlschrift auf sehr dunnem, hochwertigem Pergament geschrieben, ist in elf Exemplaren vertreten. Die meisten Handschriften stammen aus Klosterbibliotheken des sudwestdeutschen Raumes, allein 13 Bande aus dem Benediktinerkloster Zwiefalten auf der Schwabischen Alb. Funf Handschriften kamen aus der Stiftsbibliothek der Komburg bei Schwabisch Hall. Die Anlage der Beschreibungen folgt den Richtlinien zur Handschriftenkatalogisierung der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. Die Beschreibungen werden durch ausfuhrliche Register erschlossen (Namen und Sachen, Textanfange, anhand der wichtigsten Repertorien nachgewiesene Texte).
