In several cases, the versions more accurately represent what radio listeners heard at the time than the versions which are now in wide circulation. The actual content is a decent but mixed lot, sounded something like what you might have heard on an oldies weekend in the early '70s: Jonathan King's "Everyone's Gone to the Moon," and John Fred's "Judy in Disguise," the Box Tops' "The Letter," Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride," Tommy James' "Crimson and Clover," and somewhat less-anthologized hits like Vanity Fare's "Hitchin' a Ride" and Max Frost's "Shape of Things to Come," along with the small (#85) hit by the Nightcrawlers, "Little Black Egg." The differences between the versions herein and the ones you might be familiar with from current oldies radio are very small, and usually only detectable to hardcore collectors/audiophiles, but then that's the exact target audience of this special-interest reissue. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
