Skolian rock star
This is book 13 of 13 (so far) in the Skolian Saga, a sci fi series by Catherine Asaro. You want to read them in order, starting with Primary Inversion. Overall, the books have elements of romance and adventure, presenting the struggles of the members of the Ruby Dynasty, with their unique ability as empaths, in countering the threats of the Highton empire--an interstellar epic. The author is a physicist and attempts to make fantasy have a plausible (if imaginative) basis. Affection and romance are central elements in the whole series. Each book revolves around a certain family member. This last book is somewhat less riveting than the earlier books, but aficianados will not want to miss this son's (Del-Kurj's) story.
