This is a great book! Very well written, readable history. Well documented as history, but written with an easy style. Could hardly put it down. President Garfield is not one of our better known presidents, but he was a truly remarkable man. Humble, though a man of great accomplishments. The descriptions of the medical treatments of the day are horrific. Sad that the doctors basically killed a great man who could easily have recovered. The descriptions of the assassin leave little doubt that he was crazy--failed mental health leading to violence is not a new problem. I highly recommend this book (as well as the author's previous two books) to anyone who appreciates well written history.
