Bree's a widow. Edie and Susan are fighting again. Lynette returns to work. Gaby's pregnant (and Carlos is in jail). And throughout the second season, noises coming from reclusive new neighbor Betty Applewhite's basement puzzle everyone on Wisteria Lane. After burying Rex, Bree (Marcia Cross) must contend with his meddlesome mother, then with obsessive pharmacist George Williams (Roger Bart). Bree also begins to drink heavily, has a falling-out with son Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom) and meets dentist Orson Hodge (Kyle MacLachlan). Susan's spat with Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) is over her ex Karl (Richard Burgi). Susan (Teri Hatcher) is mostly over him, but his health insurance is important to her. Although she meets a cute doctor (Jay Harrington), Susan's still interested in Mike (James Denton), but backs off after learning he's the father of Zach Young (Cody Kasch), who's mixed up in the convoluted aftermath of the murder that led to Mary Alice Young's suicide. Susan also plays matchmaker for her mother (Lesley Ann Warren) and her estranged boyfriend (Bob Newhart), and meets her long-lost father. Back at work, adwoman Lynette (Felicity Huffman) must deal with a neurotic boss (Joely Fisher), while Tom (Doug Savant) chafes in his househusband role until he, too, is hired by the agency. Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) is soon paroled, thanks in part to a feisty young nun (Melinda Page Hamilton). He also forgives Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) for her affair with John Rowland. And those noises? Betty (Alfre Woodard), who arrives from Chicago in the middle of the night, stays to herself when she can. But her son Matthew (Mehcad Brooks) dates Bree's daughter Danielle (Joy Lauren). Matthew's brother Caleb doesn't get out much, but when he does chaos ensues. Paul Droesch, Rovi
