In the high desert of Nevada it was man against miles as the railroad fought to lay track against the impending dead line which if not met would cost the rail line its subsidy. Luke Fennimore, a one time, and long time trouble shooter is appointed grade superintendent to see that that doesn't happen. But once on the job trouble soon happens--there is a shortage of rails, then deliberate sabotage occurs, men are killed, and Fennimore doesn't even know who to blame for these happenings; he must seek out this unknown enemy as quickly as possible and put a stop to it. L P Holmes has written a powerful story of intrigue and mystery set against a back drop as bleak and lonely as any possible, and about a man who has a dozen years of experience in the ways of rough, tough camps and hard, stern men, but not much experience with women. Every L P Holmes book has that feminine personality to add to the mix, and Dale Leslie is another of those women characters who will reach into your heart and soul as she goes about trying to reach Luke Fennimore. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves good story telling, not just someone who loves westerns.
