This little book is issued in response to a general demand that the articles be printed in such form that they might be available for ready reference. The biographies of the eminent physicists, whose names have been selected to designate the practical electrical units, comprehend much that is most inter esting and most important in the history of electrical science. The preparation of the brief sketches and the obtainment of the ac com panying portraits involved no little labor on part of lieut. F. B. Badt, who compiled the matter in the first instance. The work was undertaken, however, as the desirability of rendering the information easily accessible seemed so apparent. Prof. H. S. Carhart's valuable article relating to the modifications to which several of the electrical units are subject is included in the little volume.
