"'Der gute Kopf leuchtet überall hervor: Goethe, Göttingen und die Wissenschaft, ' von Albrecht Schöne, Georg Schwedt und August Ohage, herausgegeben von Elmar Mittler, Elke Purpus und Georg Schwedt Der Ausstellungskatalog »Der gute Kopf leuchtet überall hervor » Goethe, Göttingen und die Wissenschaft« dokumentiert Goethes Besuche in der Universitätsstadt in den Jahren 1783 und 1801. Während dieser Besuche traf Goethe auf zahlreiche Göttinger Gelehrte wie Heyne, Schlözer, Blumenbach, Michaelis, Ossiander und Gmelin, die zeitlebens großen Einfluß auf sein Werk hatten. Er schwärmte: »Es ist gar angenehm, auf einem solchen Meere des Wissens, nach allen Gegenden mit Leichtigkeit hinsegeln zu können. « Sein Bemühen um Lichtenberg jedoch blieb auf Dauer vergeblich. Ihm schickte er im September 1793 sein Manuskript über die farbigen Schatten, zu dem Lichtenberg mehrdeutig bemerkte: »Der gute Kopf leuchtet überall hervor«. Über Goethes Farbenlehre schwieg sich der Göttinger Physiker und Philosoph standhaft aus-als Naturwissenschaftler blieb Goethe das Göttinger Gütesiegel versagt. Goethe besuchte den Botanischen Garten und das Akademische Museum mit seinen Sammlungen zu Völkerkunde, Kunstgeschichte, Zoologie und Geologie und nutzte Göttingens berühmte Bibliothek. Zahlreiche Abbildungen von außergewöhnlichen Exponaten wie der Mundurucu-Kopftrophäe und Originaldokumenten im Anhang belegen Höhen und Tiefen der Beziehung Goethes zu Göttingen, seinen Gelehrten und wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen." ["The exhibition catalogue 'The good mind shines out everywhere: Goethe, Göttingen and Science' documents Goethe's visits to the university town in 1783 and 1801. During these visits, Goethe met numerous Göttingen scholars such as Heyne, Schlözer, Blumenbach, Michaelis, Ossiander and Gmelin, who had a great influence on his work throughout his life. He enthused: "It is very pleasant to be able to sail to all regions with ease on such a sea of knowledge." However, his efforts to win Lichtenberg over were in vain in the long run. In September 1793, he sent him his manuscript on colored shadows, to which Lichtenberg ambiguously remarked: "The good mind shines out everywhere." The Göttingen physicist and philosopher remained steadfastly silent about Goethe's theory of colors-as a natural scientist, Goethe was denied the Göttingen seal of approval. Goethe visited the Botanical Garden and the Academic Museum with its collections of ethnology, art history, zoology and geology and used Göttingen's famous library. Numerous images of extraordinary exhibits such as the Mundurucu head trophy and original documents in the appendix document the highs and lows of Goethe's relationship with Göttingen, its scholars and scientific institutions.
