Russian women have a history of fighting alongside men in war. The Amazon Women are Russian - not Brazilian as might be guessed. Russian women fought against Napoleon, fought in the Russian Revolution/Civil War and WWI. They have served as pilots, machine gunners, snipers and in the positions usually expected of women.
This book is about two women serving their country as partisans and in the underground.
There are many books in Russian about the service of these women. This is one that has been translated by an American expert on the military. This book is the only one I know of covering this aspect of the Russian women's role. The others tend to concentrate on the pilots. This book expands our knowledge of these women's service - especially in the non-frontline combat role. Men, as expected, did not always immediately accept the women in these combat roles - however they came to after watching them fight. Ina at one point served next to her father.
Most Americans have no knowledge of these aspects of women's service in war. Many would write it off as "Commie Propaganda" - it isn't. This aspect of history needs to be better known - this book helps to do that. Unfortunately most people have no awareness that would lead to these books.
