Veteran Elmer Bernstein's relatively short (30 minutes) soundtrack album for The Deep End of the Ocean is suitably low-key for a film about an abducted child. It probably made sense to bring in a composer who had done such an outstanding job with To Kill a Mockingbird, another film involving childhood and danger, and in a sleeve note, Bernstein (after taking a curmudgeonly swipe at synthesizers) describes the score as "subtle and unobtrusive in an effort to support rather than disturb [the delicate balance in the ...
