Death in the Garden is a beautifully written book. It is suspenseful and thoughtful. The characters have depth and originality, and the glimpses of life in 1920s England and modern London are fascinating. Athough the murder mystery is the central theme of the book, it also touches incidentally on how little power a wife had several decades ago, and on the present-day choices women make between career and private life.
